Patchling III is the third rendition of my Patchling creature, created for Halloween Month 2026.
Rising out of a dead and twisted pumpkin field, the Patchling has evolved into a massive harvest beast built from gnarled roots, rotting vines, broken branches, thorns, leaves, and earth. Its enormous jack-o'-lantern head burns from within as it crawls across the landscape, reaching toward the viewer with huge hooked claws.
For this version, I wanted the creature and its environment to almost become one. The body disappears into the vegetation surrounding it, making it difficult to tell where the pumpkin patch ends and the monster begins.
The exaggerated perspective and enormous foreground claws were designed to make the Patchling feel impossibly large—as though you've stumbled into the field and realized much too late that the entire thing is alive.

The Patchling returns for a third incarnation—larger, darker, and no longer merely living in the pumpkin patch. This time, the patch itself has come alive.
