Wolf Totem

Wolf Totem is a dark fantasy illustration forged from muscle, steel, storm and the primal spirit of the wolf.

A massive barbarian warrior dominates the battlefield, gripping an enormous blood-worn axe as shattered ruins disappear into smoke and darkness behind him. Draped in the black pelt of the wolf, he appears caught somewhere between man and beast—his burning green eyes staring through the chaos with predatory intensity.

The extreme perspective pushes the weapon directly into the foreground while the warrior towers behind it, creating a brutal sense of scale and momentum. Cold storm light collides with the dying warmth of the horizon, carving his form from the darkness and giving the scene the atmosphere of an ancient world approaching its end.

Wolf Totem is also a personal tribute to Darkwolf from Ralph Bakshi's Fire and Ice and to the savage fantasy imagery that made the character unforgettable. Rather than recreating Darkwolf, the piece takes that inspiration into a new character and world—a warrior bound to the spirit of the wolf and built around the same unapologetic sense of strength, danger and old-school fantasy adventure.

Significant portions of the final artwork were developed and refined by hand, including extensive work on the wolf headdress, the warrior's gripping hand, and the structure and far side of the enormous foreground axe.
