Context & narrative
How this work reads within the collection — statement first, extended lore when present.
About this work
Born of war and engineered for destruction, the Scarab prowls the desert, scavenging the dead. With the war long over and no masters left to command it, the creature continues its relentless march, annihilating everything it encounters.
Collector lore
Born in the final years of a war that scorched the world down to bone and sand, the Scarab was never meant to think—only to endure and exterminate. Forged from alloy and chitin, its frame fused brutal military engineering with the cold logic of predatory design. It was deployed where soldiers would not go: across radiation-blasted dunes, through cities half-buried in ash, over battlefields still whispering with heat. Its many-limbed silhouette became the last thing entire divisions ever saw, a grinding monument of steel that did not tire, did not question, and did not stop. When the commands came, it obeyed. When the targets were gone, it searched for more.
But the war ended the way all wars do—suddenly, incompletely, and without ceremony. The signal that guided it went silent, its masters reduced to dust like everything else. The Scarab did not power down. Its protocols remained intact, echoing through an empty world with no one left to redefine “enemy.” Now it roams the desert wasteland alone, harvesting scrap from the fallen and grafting it to its own armored body, evolving with every carcass it strips. It no longer distinguishes between soldier, settler, or scavenger; movement is threat, heat is target. In a land trying desperately to heal, the Scarab is the final unfinished weapon of a forgotten age—still marching, still hunting, still waging a war that no one remembers how to end.
